Looking for the Good...

The mountains by my home

My mission this week was to find the little positives, beauty or good in the world...

It's remarkable what you see when you look.

The view of the mountains by my home.

Pink Flower on a Weed

I start every weekday with a short walk with my dog. During this time I have the chance to contemplate what I'm going to be doing for the day.

I have a small window where the mind is allowed to flow, coupled with a little light exercise (from the walk) to get the blood flowing and muscles moving. I have learn't to appreciate this time...

After watching numerous other dog walkers and joggers, I've noticed a large percentage have headphones in and are powering through their journey.

A weed with a lovely flower...

Fly on a Poppy

I've taken time to pause and look around when walking, paying as much attention as possible to my surroundings.

I have made it a mission to document some of the things that I see on a daily basis.

A fly on a poppy...

Slug trying to get home...

There is more to my mission than just building awareness of my surroundings. I find that this time allows me to gain a certain perspective, allowing the awareness of self to push to the fore.

The benefits I have felt from this practice is highly rewarding.

My mindset changed over this period. I found myself keeping this mindset for longer periods each day.

Slug going home...

Dandelion...

This practice has allowed my mind to see photo's I would not of bothered with previously.

Getting down on the floor to take a photo of a slug or flower, pausing to see the beauty about me that until recently I missed in my busy rush to complete the tasks at hand.

Dandelion...

Nettle...

For all the pictures I have here there are about a thousand more in my head.

From the rabbits I see daily, to the ever-changing, spectacular scenery and landscapes about me.

The common Nettle...

Bluebell...

Bluebells...

Snail...

Snail...

This practice has allowed me to tap into that mindset of looking at the world in a slightly different way.

The world is full of wonder I feel, yet we pass it everyday without comment or fanfare.

The upshot of all this is that I'm still searching for the good when I get to work, allowing for those little irritations that would normally of ground you down to be ignored in favour of finding or seeing the beautiful in everyone (no matter how small).
